Design Considerations for Renewable Energy PCBs

Written on . Posted in , , .

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are crucial to many machines and devices in the energy industry. As with other applications, PCBs connect electronic components, allowing power and signals to flow to other devices. The energy industry continues to evolve, which means machinery becomes more complicated as well. Due to this, the machines require high-quality PCBs to ensure they work properly.

Sonic Manufacturing Technologies is proud to serve the clean and renewable technology industry, a rapidly growing sector that’s worth trillions of dollars. We are an ideal partner for green technology, and we’d love to collaborate as you move through the critical stages of integrating electronic and mechanical components.

Below are some of the design considerations for renewable energy PCBs.

Reliability

PCB designs change based on the application, but there are certain factors that remain universally important. Reliability is one of them. Your PCB should be capable of delivering reliable performance for a long time. If it can’t, you’ll have trouble providing clean energy to homes, businesses, and devices.

Sonic Manufacturing Technologies ensures reliability in everything we do. We have a well-experienced technical team on the production floor, superior resolution of technical issues and a seasoned hardware engineering team. We will make sure your PCBs are able to provide you with dependable, reliable performance.

PCB Size

Another design consideration to account for is the size of your PCB. Consider the application first. For instance, solar power PCBs are often smaller because they also have a battery installed for times when the sun isn’t providing energy to the solar panel.

You’ll want to choose the smallest PCB possible without sacrificing performance, as this leaves room for additional electronic components. Standard PCB sizes include 24×18, 12×18, 24×9 and 12×9, and the standard PCB thickness is 1.57mm.

Material Selection

PCBs aren’t particularly eco-friendly just yet, but there are ways you can reduce their environmental impact. For starters, be cautious of the materials, as you don’t want them to be harmful to the environment. If you are creating a PCB for clean and renewable energy, you surely don’t want to be using harmful materials!

One of the best ways to reduce potential harm is use a lead-free assembly. We also recommend avoiding epoxies and phenolics because they are cheap substitutes for copper and will break down quickly. Sonic only uses the highest quality parts and components, so this will never be an issue when you work with us.
